Swim the Distance Q1 Awards Ceremony, September 2022

This week Fishlike held our very first Swim the Distance Awards Ceremony, to celebrate our Hybrid Swim Challengers who completed either 20KM, 50KM or 100KM of swimming over the past 3 months. We had a total of 10 people receiving their medals—one impressive 100KM finisher, two 50KM finishers including Master Coach Tang, and seven 20KM finishers, including Senior Coach Felicia. Our youngest challenge finisher was 8-year-old Bilis Tang, who swam an incredible 20KM over the past 3 months. Congratulations to Isaac, Zann, Wai Yee, Andy, Bilis, Jin Long, Edmond, Foo Kiong, Coach Tang and Felicia!

It was a enjoyable and friendly evening at Warren Golf & Country Club: medals were presented alongside light refreshments and lots of swim talk. We chatted about our various experience racing in different events, including Swim the Borders and Swim Expo Asia Conquer the 10. Coincidentally, one of the challengers raced in the same event as Coach Tang and came in only slightly slower! We also discovered we have some mutual friends, and that we like to train in the same place, at OCBC Arena. Plans have been made to train together in future at OCBC and in the open water 🙂

One of the challengers, Lee Foo Kiong, shared his experience of working with Coach Tang to improve his swim. He got a video analysis of his strokes and a personal training session with Coach Tang, who recommended that he work on his switch timing and point of entry. Foo Kiong felt that after the session, his stroke length improved, and he could feel the magical ‘surge forward’ with each stroke much more clearly. Go Foo Kiong!

All in all, it was great to meet all the challengers in-person after seeing their names on the leaderboard for the past 3 months. We also got a preview of the full year mega-medal, which motivated Isaac to immediately sign up for Q2 😉 Based on the feedback we received, we’ll be announcing the Q2 medal ceremony a little earlier to give everyone a chance to make it. We also plan to hold it at Sentosa over the weekend so that we can swim together and chill out for longer without needing to run off. Until then, sign up for the challenge if you haven’t already—and happy swimming!
