Swim Squad
Competitive Swimming for 6 Year Olds and Above

Swim Squad is our pre-competitive program designed to transition kids from regular swimming lessons to competitive swimming. Competitive swimming is a whole new world, with different skills and mindset required to find success and enjoyment. Having a dedicated support network and regular training structure during the transition from recreational to competitive swimming can help manage stress, build the right habits, apply and practice proper technique and maintain better performance.

In Swim Squad, we use Total Immersion principles adapted to competitive swimming to give young racers an extra edge in swimming efficiency. Participants are expected to train regularly (2-3 times a week) in order to continuously improve their performance and track their progress. Training sessions are done in small groups, fostering discipline, familiarity and team spirit. Kids learn to support each other as they compete, forming strong friendships that challenge and excite them.

Swim Squad also offers kids and teens the chance to building up racing experience through mini-races, including the Warren Golf & Country Club annual meet, in order to prepare to qualify for the Singapore National Age Group (SNAG) meet. Race day is a novel challenge for most people—practice and experience are necessary to learn to overcome nerves and anxiety while still being able to perform your best and enjoy the event.

If your child loves swimming, is motivated to seek out new challenges and wants to go beyond what they think is possible, Swim Squad is the place for them.

MORE ABOUT COMPETITIVE TRAINING

Swim Squad prepares your kids to meet a nationally-recognized swimming standard known as the Singapore Swimming Proficiency Award or SSPA. This award structure is based on swimmers’ ability to swim all four strokes competitively within certain times, in compliance with FINA rules for competitive swimming. SSPA levels are defined as follows:

Testing is usually done at swim meets or other racing events, which your kids will also gain access to as part of their Swim Squad training. And rest assured, we will be with them every step of the way through training and racing, to make sure they are performing at their best and have every chance of making the times stated.

Direct School Admission

Swimmers who train in Swim Squad also qualify for direct school admission (DSA) to a Secondary School of their choice. DSA is a separate application track, before PSLE exams, in which students use their talents in sports, CCAs or other academic areas to apply for and secure admission into Secondary School.

For swimmers to use DSA, they need to place in the top 8 in any swimming event during their P6 school year. However please note that final admissions are always decided by the schools directly, based on their own criteria which change year-by-year. Find out more about this here.

National School Games

Every student in Swim Squad also gets to take part in two individual events at the National School Games, if they qualify based on the times below. NSG race times can also be used for DSA applications.

WHY JOIN

Training in Team Spirit

Attending swimming lessons on your own is completely different from training in a team. Team sports can help kids and youth build lifelong social skills, as well as being a supportive network and outlet as they go through life. Swim Squad offers the chance for kids to train in and cultivate team spirit as they form strong friendships based on mutual respect and shared interests.

Advanced and Superior Swimming Methods

At Fishlike, we always use Total Immersion principles to make swimming smooth, effortless and graceful. Total Immersion helps competitive swimmers swim longer, faster and better, with less fatigue. As with most things in life, technique makes all the difference—and we have the expertise to share the right swimming techniques with your kids.

Going Further than What You Think is Possible

Swim Squad is an ideal environment for kids who are seeking a challenge and want to be stretched beyond their comfort zone. We take pride in encouraging our students’ progress and sharing in their satisfaction every time they achieve more than they think is possible.
